Race is a construct, but Nikki Haley is not (IMO) white based on what we define as white in America. Sure, she has "white" skin and enjoys many white privileges, but the fact that she changed her name to gain acceptance with the white community says it all—an attempt to distance herself from her Indian heritage, i.e., her brownness. She is an other that desperately wants to be included in their club.
