We are not our ancestors, but we're also not the masters of our destiny. No matter what Black peoples' actions or accomplishments, we will always be hindered by those people—the White ones in charge. This is a classic case of having to be better to be equal. Barak and Kamala have to be exceptional and without reproach. Trump has only to be dumb, mediocre, and White. It never was about policy, but about race and gender, more specifically, racism and misogyny. The curtain has been fully drawn on the saturation of racism in America and the chronic racial bias that lingers in every fiber of the country's fabric. This is where the distrust, wariness, and sometimes rage in Black people comes from, fermented in the cauldrons of time by centuries of white supremacy and injustice. But, we are NOT our ancestors.
